About the Museum

The Senate Museum of Printing

Welcome to the main printing museum in Spain. It includes machines, furniture, both printing and binding typefaces.

The completest one Museum in Spain and one of the most important in Europe.
The magnificent building, Santa María’s Monastery of El Puig and its contents, like the Gutenberg’s press exact reproduction of Maguncia’s Museum, unique in Europe, make the museum in the referent for Printing and Graphic Arts lovers.

The content is presented through different machinery and working objects, from the press beginning going through the printing systems developments in the Graphic Arts history. Didactic series that reflect the evolution of the different sectors, combined with splendid explanation panels and dedicated showrooms for specific sectors like xylography, bookbinding. From the movable type to digital printing.

Santa María’s of El Puig

In this village of Valencia’s l’Horta Nord district is located the Mercedarian monastery which has hosted the Printing and Graphic Arts Museum since 1987 currently dependent on the Generalitat Valenciana and initially called the Lambert Palmart-Jacobo Vizlant Printing Museum by its founders Ricardo Vicent, José Huguet and Gonzalo Sales.

The city of Valencia has the most splendid past of the beginnings of the Spanish printing press; in Valencia was installed the first large nucleus of printers who produced the largest production of incunabula books in the initial printing times, the first literary work Les Trobes en Lahors de la Verge Maria, the first fiction work “De duobus amantibus”, and the first with the edition date Comprehensorium
